Federer or nadal…….who is greater??
So all you readers out there, this is my first post and here I will be talking about tennis although this not mean that I would be taking only sports in future but it is only my love towards sports that is helping my hand to stretch and write on sports. Not wasting much time, I come to the topic but before I begin I want to tell all the readers that I would be anxiously awaiting your comments.
Well!!……… the media is being too sarcastic in being commenting about the recent Wimbledon final between the so called king of clay(Ok!! I know some people may now think that Rafael nadal is king of grass too….. but for the time being let’s call him king of clay only) Rafael Nadal and the great Roger Federer(let’s take his name with more dignity and respect, after all he is the five times Wimbledon champion and twelve times grand slam winner) and have started a debate over whether Rafa has overtaken Federer or is he still miles away from him. In my opinion, it is too early and unfair to say that Rafa is a more complete player than Federer as the latter has proved himself over the years and has shown his sporting skills in almost all tournaments of tennis(ok not French open but still…….). His play is a perfect blend of devotion and never to say die attitude. Such is the prestige and status of this player that he enjoys the same status as Sachin Tendulkar enjoys in India and no need to mention that nobody can question Sachin’s devotion and greatness. In a similar fashion, Federer cannot be compared to the likes of Rafael Nadal.
Not to mention that Rafael is a bad player but I am only highlighting the flaws in his play one of which is his over reliability on backhand which will not be there always to rescue him and other is inability to respond to aces quickly though he has this special ability to convert the break points. Coming back to the astonishing match!!!!!the Wimbledon 2008 final which nadal won by 6-4, 6-4, 6-7, 6-7, 9-7 has been described as the greatest of all times by tennis legends. John McEnroe, a former Wimbledon champion has described it as the best, even better than the Wimbledon 1980 final between him and great Bjorn Borg. A newspaper has reported that nadal is fitter, stronger and faster than federer. Well I would only recommend the writer to open his/her eyes a bit and see the speed of federer on court and his everlasting fitness over the years which has earned him the coveted 12 slams which at present, other players can only dream about(yes including nadal!!). Needless to say Federer will definitely bounce back and he will be like a hungary tiger next year at Wimbledon and he’ll make up for whatever little he has lost. He is one of the best players tennis has seen and one title loss doesn’t make him less great. He is here to say and his hunger flame for titles is still inflated.
That being said, all this has nothing to take away from the success stories of Spanish players in major sporting events this year first the European Championship and then the big Wimbledon. Definitely, year 2008 will highlight the golden era of Spanish sports and will be a major landmark in their sporting history.
